Snoring
can be a big problem. Almost all of us
can name at least one person who snores. This
has been attached with a negative stigma and often
becomes the punch line of jokes.
First,
it agitates your partner. Second, it agitates
you. When you spend the night snoring, you may
actually wake yourself up. If you don’t,
you undoubtedly are not getting a very good night’s
sleep. Snoring is actually a sign of an obstruction
in air flow. For this reason, snoring is more
than an annoyance. At times, it can be a very
real and frustrating problem. In an effort to
help, manufacturers have actually even developed
no snore pillows.
What
is a no snore pillow?
These pillows were first developed by physicians
as therapeutic aids. Doctors know all about the
sleeping habits that contribute to snoring. They
developed pillows that have elevated foam panels.
The goal of this design is to gently and comfortably
position a back-sleeper's head to the side, lowering
the chances of their airway being obstructed.
To do this will be reducing the chances of snoring
since breathing will become easier.
Does
a no snore pillow work? In some
cases, yes. A person who snores a lot may benefit
from proper body positioning, opening their air
passageways. They may enjoy more restful, comfortable
sleep while their partners enjoy the peace and
quiet. In other cases, the snoring may persist.
This may or may not be a symptom of a much larger
problem.
If
you’ve tried a no snore pillow and find
that your partner is still reporting that you
continue to snore, the best option is to contact
your doctor. Although this may sound extreme,
you need to realize that snoring
is in some cases more than just an annoyance or
frustrating habit. If you are snoring and it’s
just a quiet humming sort of sound that is constant
and unbroken, you are probably exhibiting primary
snoring which is no real cause for concern. However,
if your partner reports that you’re making
snorting noises, gasping for breath, or if you
sometimes wake yourself up, jolted by your loud,
irregular snoring patterns, this may be cause
for concern. Other worry factors include constant
sleepiness even after a night of sleep or persistent
insomnia. These could be signs of a sleep
disorder that requires medical attention.
If
you have a problem with snoring, there is no harm
in purchasing a no snore pillow in efforts to
combat your snoring issue. However, it is important
to always consult a doctor for proper diagnosis.
If you don’t in fact have a sleep disorder,
there are other things you can do to help ensure
that you have a better night's sleep. Some tips
include having a set bedtime and a set time to
wake in the morning, not eating close to bedtime,
incorporating regular exercise into your daily
routine, avoiding caffeinated beverages like coffee
and soda, staying away from alcoholic drinks,
and taking a long, hot bath or curling up to enjoy
a television program and wind down before climbing
into bed.
